Sowing : Plant cloves in the fall, about weeks before the ground freezes. Sow cloves 2 inches deep with the pointed end facing up. Space cloves inches apart in rows inches apart. Germination : Garlic does not truly "germinate" like seeds, but will establish roots and sprout in the fall. Mulch heavily with straw or leaves to protect cloves over the winter. Transplanting : No transplanting is necessary, as cloves are planted directly in their final growing location.
Care and Maintenance : Water regularly, especially during dry periods, ensuring soil is consistently moist but not waterlogged. Remove mulch in the spring to allow the soil to warm up.
